Letter From The Founder No. 30
We Did It.
Folks, today my letter to you is a long time coming. As of this month, Beachman has been officially awarded its national and international motorcycle manufacturer’s licenses by the Canadian federal government and SAE International. This is an achievement 4 years in the making, and has significant ramifications for the future of the company and for our product lineups today. Most importantly, we are finally releasing the Light Motorcycle version of our ‘64 bike, and it is available for sale in Canada right now.
When Steve and I started this company, the dream was always to start a motorcycle company, and the ‘64 would one day be the first true 50cc electric motorcycle. The journey here was certainly along the path less traveled, filled with turns and twists, but today we are here, and with great cause to share a beer and enjoy the moment we’ve worked so hard to see.
Thank you to all of our customers who have waited for so many years for this to come to pass. Your support is what keeps this business alive, and keeps the people who work here coming in every day and doing their damn best.
This summer has been a fantastic one for our team. We rode our bikes every chance we got, exploring Toronto together, enjoying community rides to parks and baseball diamonds. My friends and I spend a good deal of time riding down to the river and watching the fish jump.
Several of our staff had the opportunity to travel to Italy and Greece, and take in the beauty of European food & culture. I rented a peppy little manual hatchback and drove all over the countryside with a friend, eating pasta and ogling at the motorcycles and scenery.
This summer was also a bittersweet one as our long-time marketing manager and good friend, Morley Cromwell, moved on to work in environmental research with U Of T. I know many of you reading this have fond memories of her time here, and we miss her dearly and wish her all the best.
With summer coming to a close, we are excited to send out one final swath of updates and upgrades to our bikes to capture the last of riding season. There’s nothing like riding through the fall colors on a winding road.
As always, I will highlight the most important bits for those who only have time to scan the email.

A great photo of Morley from last summer. She will be missed!
The Light Motorcycle Is Now In Canada

With a top speed of 70 km/h, the '64 LM (Light Motorcycle) is fully road legal and the ultimate ride for enjoying your home city or town. The LM will be nearly identical to the e-bike, but with no bike pedals and no compromises, just a great ride for tooling around and enjoying life. It will require a license and insurance in all provinces, although some provinces will only require a drivers license, no motorcycle license needed. Full specs are available on the website here.
The LM will come to the USA soon, but for now, we will need to stick with our e-bike/moped hybrid model we currently offer to Americans. Things have ground to a halt under the current administration, drastically increasing the time it is taking to get the bike approved, but once it is, we will open up US sales.

New Product: Beachman Playing Cards
Banter Hour Has Arrived

When I think about leisure, for me it always comes down to playing cards by the water. It’s something my friends and I have done for decades, and this deck honors that tradition. A time and place I call the Banter Hour, when all you have to do that day is drink Campari & soda and tell jokes over a game of euchre. This deck was designed to be at home during those moments, featuring art designed around 4 classic cocktails and Beachman settings, as well as some hidden easter eggs for those with attention to detail.
For about a year now I’ve been working with designer and friend Marlena Temporao to develop this remarkable deck of cards. No expense was spared in the craftsmanship of this deck, from the thick German art paper to the water-resistant linen-stamped finish to the quality of print and packaging, it’s been an exercise in doing exactly what we want without compromises.
Accompanying the card deck is my newest playlist, Banter Hour. Featuring upbeat tracks ranging from afro-funk to spanish guitar and everything in between, this playlist will set the mood instantly on that sunny patio party and keep it going all afternoon. Now available on Spotify.
Just in time for your holiday shopping, these are the perfect stocking stuffers. Every Beachman sold from now on will also come with a deck of cards as a little reminder to get out and enjoy yourself.

The “Mad Max” Raw Steel Tank Is Here

Those who’ve followed Beachman for years now know that we occasionally drop a limited number of our brushed steel “Mad Max” tanks. Finally, we have decided to add them now as a permanent addition to our growing suite of customizations.
Each tank is hand-finished to order in the Beachman facility by our senior builders. First, the tanks are stripped down to their bare metal, then sanded, polished, and finished on the wire wheel to give a unique weathered look. Then they are clear-coated to permanently seal in the finish and prevent rust or corrosion to the bare metal.
For those who want something truly different, this is the ultimate choice.

And that's all folks.
As always, it is a pleasure to be able to write these letters, and a testament to the fact that after all these years I am somehow still working here, living the dream!
Thank you for your continued support of Beachman and I look forward to seeing you down the road.
